Back and Lay Calculator

Betting exchanges have enabled individuals to lay an outcome as well back it. Depending on the volume of back transactions compared to lay transactions the odds may go either up or down, or stay still if the two are well balanced. You can find more info on this in our "Guide to Betting Exchanges".

Assuming you already know the theory the calculator below will enable you to quickly determine how much money you should place on both the back and lay transaction at the odds supplied to get the required outcome.

A back and lay strategy involves two transactions, 1) the back and 2) the lay. But these can occur either way round. Use the calculator below by entering your first transaction, choosing wether it was a back or lay and we will tell you the choices for your second transaction.

The profit distribution allows you to weight your transactions. For example if you select Profit Distribution: Even Split then you will make the same amount regardless of the outcome of the event. However, if select Profit Distribution: Back you will maximise your profit if the event outcome is a win and you will make 0 is the event outcome is a loss. Lastly, if you select Profit Distribution: Lay you will maximise your profit if the selection loses, and make 0 if the selection wins.
